Updated May 4, 20263 min read

If you share a computer with children and want to lock down your video settings, Glitch's child lock feature hides the toolbar and disables shortcuts behind a 4-digit PIN.

  1. 1
    Step 1

Set a 4-digit PIN in the settings panel

Go to Glitch's settings panel and navigate to the child lock section. Enter a 4-digit PIN and confirm it.

  2. 2
    Step 2

    Enable the lock

Once enabled, the Glitch toolbar is hidden and keyboard shortcuts are disabled. Nothing can be changed until the PIN is entered.

  3. 3
    Step 3

    Unlock from the extension icon

To unlock, click the Glitch icon in the Chrome toolbar and enter your PIN. The toolbar and shortcuts return immediately.

  4. 4
    Step 4

Set your preferred settings before locking

Set your preferred speed, filters, and shortcuts before locking. Those settings remain active while the lock is on — they just cannot be changed.

  5. 5
    Step 5

Use it on shared family computers

Child lock is particularly useful on computers where children have access to the same Chrome profile and might accidentally change settings.

  6. 6
    Step 6

Keep your PIN simple but not obvious

A PIN you can type quickly is important since you will enter it every time you want to adjust settings.

FAQ

  • Is child lock free?

Yes. Child lock with PIN protection is a free feature.

  • Can a child bypass the lock by disabling the extension?

The extension itself can be disabled from Chrome's extension manager. If you want to prevent this, use Chrome's supervised user profiles or OS-level parental controls alongside Glitch.

  • Does child lock prevent watching videos?

No. Child lock only locks the Glitch toolbar and shortcuts. Videos play normally.
