How to customize video keyboard shortcuts in Chrome
Every extension ships with default shortcuts, but those defaults might conflict with your other tools or feel awkward to reach. Here is how to set up shortcuts that actually fit your workflow.
- 1Step 1
Find out what shortcuts exist
Glitch ships defaults for play/pause, seek, volume, speed, loop, screenshot, bookmarks, and more. Press the help key (/ by default) while watching any video to see the full list.
- 2Step 2
Identify which defaults conflict with your other tools
Common conflicts are with IDE shortcuts, note-taking apps, and other browser extensions. Make a list before remapping.
- 3Step 3
Open the shortcuts panel
Glitch's settings panel has a dedicated section for every shortcut. Each one shows the current binding and a field to enter a new key.
- 4Step 4
Remap speed keys to the most reachable positions
Speed up and speed down are the shortcuts you will use most. Put them on keys you can reach without looking away from the video.
- 5Step 5
Assign a reset-to-1× key
A dedicated reset key lets you jump back to normal speed instantly without clicking anything. It is worth setting up even if you only use it occasionally.
- 6Step 6
Test each shortcut while a video is playing
After remapping, verify everything works as expected. Conflicts with the page's own shortcuts can cause one to override the other.
FAQ
- Are keyboard shortcuts customizable in the free version?

- What happens if my shortcut key conflicts with the site's own shortcuts?
Glitch's shortcuts take priority over most page shortcuts. If a site shortcut is not being overridden, try a different key.
