How to save and resume video progress in Chrome

Updated May 4, 20263 min read

Some sites save your position. Most do not. A good Chrome extension covers the gap so you never have to manually scrub back to where you were.

  1. 1
    Step 1

Let Glitch track your position automatically

Glitch records your playback position across sessions. When you come back to the same video URL, it picks up from where you left off.

  2. 2
    Step 2

See your watch history across all supported sites

The watch history panel shows all the videos you have started, including how far you got and how much time you spent.

  3. 3
    Step 3

    Check your cumulative time saved

Glitch tracks how much time you have saved through speed and silence skipping across all your sessions so you can see the real impact.

  4. 4
    Step 4

Use bookmarks for specific moments, not just general position

Auto-resume gets you back to roughly where you were. Bookmarks get you to the exact moment you cared about.

  5. 5
    Step 5

    Export your history for backup

Glitch's export feature saves all settings and history data locally. Export before clearing if you want to keep a record.

  6. 6
    Step 6

    Clear history for privacy

If you share a device and do not want watch history visible, you can clear it from the settings panel at any time.

FAQ

  • Does Glitch save progress for Netflix too?

Glitch saves position locally by URL. Netflix also saves your position on their own servers, so both work in parallel.

  • Is watch history visible to other people on the same Chrome profile?

History is stored locally in your browser. Other users of the same Chrome profile can see it. Clearing history removes it entirely.

  • Is auto-resume free?

Basic position tracking and watch history are free. Auto-resume on tab return is a Pro feature.
