How to bookmark and take notes on videos in Chrome

Updated May 4, 20264 min read

Scrubbing back through a long video to find a moment you wanted to revisit is a time sink. Timestamped bookmarks and per-video notes fix that — here is how to set them up.

  1. 1
    Step 1

Press a single key to drop a bookmark while watching

Good bookmarking is frictionless. Glitch's default bookmark key lets you drop a timestamp without pausing or opening a menu — the video keeps playing.

  2. 2
    Step 2

    Add a label right after

A bookmark at 43:12 means nothing two days later without context. Glitch opens a small label field right after you drop the bookmark so you can name it immediately.

  3. 3
    Step 3

Take notes linked to the video

Notes should live with the video, not in a separate document you will lose. Glitch attaches up to 3 notes per video for free, unlimited with Pro, and they are there the next time you open the same URL.

  4. 4
    Step 4

Use watch history to find partially watched videos

Glitch tracks watch progress so you can return to something you started without hunting through your browser history.

  5. 5
    Step 5

Take a screenshot to capture a visual moment

For diagrams, slides, or any frame you want to save, Glitch captures the current frame as a PNG file with a single keystroke.

  6. 6
    Step 6

    Export your settings for backup

Glitch lets you export all settings — including bookmarks and notes — as a file so you can back them up or transfer them to another device manually.

FAQ

  • Do bookmarks sync across devices?

Bookmarks and notes are stored locally in your browser. They do not sync to other devices automatically.

  • Are bookmarks limited to YouTube?

No. Bookmarks work on any site where Glitch is active — Coursera, Udemy, Twitch, Netflix, and any other HTML5 video page.

  • What happens to my bookmarks if I uninstall and reinstall the extension?

They are stored in Chrome's local storage. Uninstalling removes them. Export your settings first if you need to preserve them.
