Updated May 4, 20263 min read

The default black or grey video player does not have to be what you see. A good extension lets you match the player theme to your mood, the content, or your setup.

  1. 1
    Step 1

Start with a dark or light base theme

Glitch ships Dark, Light, and Mono themes free so you can match your system preference without upgrading.

  2. 2
    Step 2

Try a personality or genre theme for music content

Themes like Vinyl, Neon Stage, Lo-Fi, Jazz, and Hip Hop are designed to match specific types of content and mood.

  3. 3
    Step 3

    Use accessibility themes for readability

High Contrast, Colorblind, and Low Vision themes are included in Pro and designed for users who need specific visual accommodations.

  4. 4
    Step 4

Let Auto Vibe pick the theme for you

Auto Vibe (Pro) analyses the audio mood in real time and switches the theme and visualizer automatically to match the energy of what is playing.

  5. 5
    Step 5

Switch themes from the panel without stopping the video

Glitch's theme gallery is inside the settings panel so you can preview and switch while the video keeps playing.

  6. 6
    Step 6

Pair themes with filters for a consistent look

A Lo-Fi theme plus a warm film grain filter creates a cohesive aesthetic that works especially well for music and ambient content.

FAQ

  • How many themes are free?

Three themes are free — Dark, Light, and Mono. All 25 themes including personality, genre, community, and accessibility themes require Pro.

  • Can I create a custom theme?

Glitch does not currently offer a custom theme builder, but the color grading sliders let you adjust the video's visual appearance independently of the toolbar theme.

  • Do themes affect video quality?

No. Themes only change the appearance of the Glitch toolbar and panel. The video stream is untouched.
